As we wrap up 2023, we have a special Colorado Outdoors podcast episode to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act.
Established in 1973, the Endangered Species Act provides special protections to more than 1,300 species throughout the nation. Here in Colorado, there are eight federally endangered species and nine more federally threatened species that occur in our state.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife works in close collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to manage threatened and endangered species and the habitats they rely upon. The primary goal is to make species’ populations healthy and vital so they can be delisted.
CPW strives to take proactive measures to keep species populations healthy enough not to need this legal protection. The agency works closely with private landowners, county governments, non-governmental organizations (non-profits) and others to protect and improve habitat, conduct research and work collaboratively to promote species productivity.
In this episode, we talk with recently retired Colorado Parks and Wildlife Species Conservation Coordinator Tina Jackson, who spent a career working with endangered and threatened species in Colorado.
