Another event that steps up excitement at Colorado’s cold water reservoirs in June is the spring awakening of the northern pike. A pike’s metabolism slows to near hibernation in winter. As the water warms, the pike wake up and they wake up hungry. So, stalking these fearsome predators on foot in the shallow flats with a fly rod can lead to some explosive action.
