Before going onto a frozen lake, pond or river, it's important to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of falling through the ice.

Never assume any ice is safe in Colorado. In this video, Bryan Johnson, hatchery manager at the Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery, shares his experience from 25-plus years of ice fishing. Bryan discusses important ice safety guidelines that should be followed whenever you head out onto Colorado’s frozen waters. Additionally, Eleven Mile State Park ranger Kelli Lewis covers some important regulations while discussing the various forms of recreation you may see out on the ice.
