2023 Colorado Big Game Hunting: What’s New

If you plan to hunt this fall, be aware of some important changes that affect the 2023 limited-license draw and the fall hunting seasons.

The 2023 Colorado Big Game Brochure is now available. This video provides a summary of some of the changes related to the limited-license draws and the fall hunting seasons. Be sure to read the “What’s New” pages in the big game and sheep and goat brochures to see a full list of changes on tap for the 2023 seasons.

​​​​​​​Im​​portant D​ates​ for the 2023 Colorado Big Game Hunting Season

  • ​March 1, 2023 – Applications accepted, and qualifying licenses available for purchase.
  • April 4, 2023, 8pm (MT) – Bear, deer, elk, moose, pronghorn, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, desert bighorn sheep and mountain goat limited license application & correction deadline (Primary Draw) ​
  • June 30, 2023, 8pm (MT) – Bear, deer, elk, & pronghorn limited license application & correction deadline (Secondary Draw)
  • August 1, 2023, 9a​m (MT) – Over-the-counter licenses (unlimited & add-on bear) and Remaining (leftover) limited licenses on sale online, in person and by phone, (no application necessary)​

  1. Video is very helpful. However, will I still get a brochure in the mail or do I need to print it out here? I sometimes use my brochure during the hunting season and like a hard copy.

    1. You will still receive a printed copy. Please remember to check the online version of the brochure, because it will reflect any corrections that are made throughout the year.
