Colorado Big Game Hunting Series: Part 11 – Opening Weekend Rifle Elk Hunting

Heading out this weekend with a 1st rifle elk tag? Nate and wildlife officer Scott have some updates that could change your Colorado hunt.

Nate Zelinsky sits down with Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer Scott Murdoch to discuss the upcoming Colorado rifle elk hunting season. Scott and Nate discuss the status of the elk rut and how animals are behaving in the field. They cover the impact that burn areas are having on elk behavior and opportunities that might surprise some hunters. They dive into how Colorado’s first snows of the season could impact your upcoming hunt. And finally, if you’ve been following the news about the elk with the tire around its neck, Nate takes advantage of his time with Scott to get a firsthand account of how our officers were able to tranquilize this elusive bull elk and finally remove the tire.

Nate Zelinsky is a professional Walleye Angler and all species guide based in Colorado and has guided and tournament fished all across the country. Nate is on his 19th year as owner of Tightline Outdoors Colorado’s Premier outlet for multi-species guiding, tournaments, TV, Digital Content, TV, Radio, and Writing! You can also listen to Nate on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. on The Fan Outdoors with Terry Wickstrom. Nate’s daily goal is to educate anglers to create success every time they go on the water.
